Reverse Mortgage Counseling
The goal of reverse mortgage counseling is to provide you with as much information as possible to help you make an informed decision on if and how to proceed with a reverse mortgage. In all cases, the counselor will attempt to have your heirs in attendance at the counseling session.
As a safeguard for individuals interested in obtaining a reverse mortgage the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development established a requirement for the mortgage applicant to receive counseling from an independent third party. During the one-on-one session, conducted by telephone or in person, CCCSDV helps their clients:
- Obtain a clear understanding of your objectives
- Complete a current budget and debt analysis
- Determine your time frame available to accomplish your objectives
- Review the reverse mortgage products and the features and benefits of each
- Determine your eligibility for product and loan amount
- Discuss alternatives to reverse mortgage
Call 800-989-2227 to schedule an immediate appointment by phone, in-person session at one of our ten convenient locations, by phone or start the process online. This one-on-one counseling service is available in English, Spanish, Chinese, Russian and Turkish.
Payment Options for Reverse Mortgage Counseling
A fee of $125 is charged for reverse mortgage counseling. Clients or lenders can pay this fee. Payments can be made in advance online or at the time of service.
The following methods of payment are accepted:
- Cash
- Debit Card
- Bank Check/Certified Check/Money Order
- Credit or debit card with the Visa or MasterCard logo using our online program.
The counseling fee may be waived for consumers whose income falls below the current Federal HHS Poverty Guidelines. Documented proof of income must be submitted. If you feel you may qualify to have the fee waived, please e-mail CCCS and you will be contacted shortly.
