Debt Management Counseling
If you are having difficulty meeting your debt obligations, or are at your credit limits, you may qualify for our Debt Management Program (DMP). Your counselor will work with your creditors to lower payments, stop collection action and reduce or eliminate interest and fees, enabling you to pay off your debt within five years. You deposit a monthly payment to CCCSDV, who in turn, disburses the payments to your creditors. Endorsed by creditors nationwide, the DMP enables you to become debt-free and avoid bankruptcy.
During your counseling session, you and your counselor complete the following steps:
- Obtain and verify personal information and all income amounts
- Review budget and discuss spending recommendations
- Determine if income covers essential monthly expenses
- Review assets and liabilities
- Obtain debt account statements
- Review your options based on your individual financial circumstance
- Help determine if you can realistically afford a monthly DMP payment
- Create an appropriate action plan
For individuals who enter into our Debt Management Plan (DMP), there is a $50 set-up fee and a $25 minimal monthly contribution fee.
Call 800-989-2227 to schedule an immediate appointment by phone, in-person session at one of our ten convenient locations, by phone or start the process online. This one-on-one counseling service is available in English, Spanish, Chinese, Russian and Turkish.
